Bespoke metal planters in Hackney

Hackney's outdoor space tends to be found rather than designed in: a flat warehouse roof in Shoreditch, a light well behind a shop on Kingsland Road, a shared yard between two blocks in Homerton. Making those spaces work usually means metalwork that is doing two jobs at once — holding soil and defining where people sit or walk.

Bespoke metal planters of the kind we fabricate and install in Hackney — Full courtyard view — meadow planters, pergola and integrated benches between brick façades.

That is why so much of our Hackney work is integrated: planters with hardwood bench tops, planter runs that double as balustrade infill, and edge kerbs that quietly separate a route from a bed. All fabricated to your drawings and installed by our own fitters.

Built for Hackney

01

Small-footprint sites

Where floor area is scarce, a planter that also seats four people earns its space. We build bench inserts into the shell rather than bolting a seat on afterwards, so the profile stays clean.

02

Industrial fabric

Against exposed brick, steel and concrete, a raw or lightly waxed finish often reads better than colour. We offer hot-rolled steel with a clear lacquer, blackened finishes and Corten alongside standard PPC.

03

Shared amenity

Co-living and workspace roofs in E8 and E9 take heavy use. We specify thicker seat sections and marine-grade fixings on anything intended for daily public seating.

Delivery & access

Narrow rear access and shared yards are the norm. We survey the route before manufacture and break the run into sections that can be carried by two people through a standard doorway where necessary.

Planning & context

Hackney frequently applies biodiversity and greening conditions to new consents. Deeper planters with genuine root volume help meet those targets, and we build to the substrate depth your landscape architect has specified rather than the shallowest option.

Questions

Hackney FAQs

Can a planter double as seating on a roof terrace?
Yes — integrated bench planters are one of our most-requested products. Seat tops come in Iroko, Oak or Accoya as standard, fixed from below so no fixings show.
Do you offer a raw industrial finish?
We supply hot-rolled steel with a clear protective lacquer, blackened steel, and Corten. Each weathers differently, and we can send samples before you commit.
Can you deliver through a narrow rear alley?
Yes. We size and joint the run for the access route you have, and confirm the strategy on the shop drawings.
